The United Nations: Introduction
The United Nations, founded in 1945, consists of 193 Member States. Formed following the conclusion of World War II, the United Nations and its committees aimed to "maintain international peace and security." The United Nations has also worked to deliver humanitarian aid and uphold international law. Additionally, guided by the principles addressed its founding Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United Nations has defended human rights for decades, continuing to do so today.
