Historical and Contemporary Influences of the United Nations
Throughout history, the United Nations has achieved its objectives of maintaining international peace and security, promoting sustainable development, upholding international law, delivering humanitarian aid, and, notably, protecting human rights worldwide. Contributing to the successes of the United Nations are two documents outlining the basic human rights entitled to every citizen throughout the world, without any distinction. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child set forth standards by which individuals must be treated. Through enforcement by every signatory, the world, particularly developing countries, has experienced significant improvement in the realm of human rights.
